Below is the original house built by Percival B. McCutchon, Sr. in 1850
The one-story house was raised in 1938
The original one-story residence at 829 E. Scenic was built by Percival B. McCutchon, father of Dr. P.B. McCutchon and grandfather of E. Davis McCutchon, who retired from D.H. Holmes in 1963 to live with his wife at Pass Christian in a house built on the grounds of the original McCutchon property. In 1937, the family sold the property from Scenic Drive to Second Street to a group consisting of Isidore Newman II, Eugene Aschaffenberg, and Eugene’s brother-in-law. The house was sold in 1938 to John Ewing, publisher of the Shreveport Times, who remodeled it to its present form. The one-story core was raised, and the basement, steps, and distinctive curved iron railings were added.
It was later sold to Dr. Mary, then to Mr. DeMontluzin, then to Mr. Bosworth, a contractor, who sold it to J. Edgar Monroe.
This affidavit was signed by E. Davis McCutchon, grandson of Mr. P.B. McCutchon on June 15, 1976.
The following notation was penciled in:
Purchased by Sherwood Bailey in September 1978.
